The layout at a glance

This Mongolian virtual keyboard mirrors the layout used on physical Mongolian keyboards, whose top row begins with ФЦУЖЭН. Its 47 character keys reach the 35 letters of the Cyrillic script (U+0400–U+052F) straight from the browser, with nothing to install.

The layout reaches 37 characters that an ordinary Latin keyboard does not carry: а б в г д е ж з и й к л м н о п р с т у ф х ц ч ш щ ъ ы ь э ю я ё ү ө ₮ №.

Transliteration mode lets you write Mongolian from a Latin keyboard: you type the sounds and the text is converted as you go.

How to type in Mongolian

  1. Click the on-screen keys or type on your physical keyboard — both write into the same text area.
  2. Shift shows the second layer of every key: capitals and the characters printed at the top right.
  3. The Copy button puts the whole text on the clipboard, ready to paste into an email, a document or a form.
  4. The Google, YouTube and ChatGPT buttons run a search with the text you typed, without retyping it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I type ө and ү?

ө is on the F key and ү on the O key. Shift gives Ө and Ү.

How do I type digits?

On the Mongolian layout digits are on Shift + the number-row keys; the keys themselves give punctuation and the tugrik sign ₮.

Is this the Cyrillic or the traditional Mongolian script?

Cyrillic, the everyday script of Mongolia. The vertical traditional script (ᠮᠣᠩᠭᠣᠯ) needs a different keyboard.

How is it different from the Russian keyboard?

The Mongolian layout rearranges the Cyrillic letters to fit Mongolian and adds ө and ү, so key positions differ from ЙЦУКЕН.

How many letters does Mongolian Cyrillic have?

35: the 33 Russian letters plus ө and ү.

Where is the tugrik sign ₮?

On the 4 key, without Shift.
