This Kannada virtual keyboard mirrors the layout used on physical Kannada keyboards, whose top row begins with ೌೈಾೀೂಬ. Its 46 character keys reach the 67 letters of the Kannada script (U+0C80–U+0CFF) straight from the browser, with nothing to install.
The layout reaches 78 characters that an ordinary Latin keyboard does not carry: ಁ ಂ ಃ ಅ ಆ ಇ ಈ ಉ ಊ ಋ ಎ ಏ ಐ ಒ ಓ ಔ ಕ ಖ ಗ ಘ ಙ ಚ ಛ ಜ ಝ ಞ ಟ ಠ ಡ ಢ ಣ ತ ಥ ದ ಧ ನ ಪ ಫ ಬ ಭ.
13 further characters come from the AltGr key (Alt on mobile): ₹ ೧ ೨ ೩ ೪ ೫ ೬ ೭ ೮ ೯ ೦ ೄ ೢ.

How to type in Kannada
Click the on-screen keys or type on your physical keyboard — both write into the same text area.
Shift shows the second layer of every key: capitals and the characters printed at the top right.
AltGr (Alt on mobile) shows the third layer, the characters printed at the bottom right.
The Copy button puts the whole text on the clipboard, ready to paste into an email, a document or a form.
The Google, YouTube and ChatGPT buttons run a search with the text you typed, without retyping it.
Key reference table
Each row is one physical key: the base character, the one produced with Shift, then the one produced with AltGr.
InScript, India’s government standard, where each key gives the same letter in every Indian script. The Nudi layout used by the Karnataka government arranges letters phonetically instead.
How do I add a vowel sign (kagunita)?
Type the consonant, then the vowel sign: ಕ + ಾ = ಕಾ, ಕ + ಿ = ಕಿ. Independent vowels (ಅ, ಇ, ಉ…) are on Shift.
How do I type conjuncts (ottakshara)?
Use the virama ್ on the D key between two consonants: ಕ + ್ + ಕ = ಕ್ಕ.
How do I type Kannada numerals, ಂ and ಃ?
Alt Gr + the number-row keys gives ೦ to ೯. ಂ is on the X key and ಃ on Shift + the hyphen key.
Where is Kannada used?
It is the official language of Karnataka, with about 45 million native speakers. Its script is closely related to Telugu.
