The layout at a glance

This Belarusian virtual keyboard mirrors the ЙЦУКЕН layout of a physical Belarusian keyboard. Its 47 character keys reach the 35 letters of the Cyrillic script (U+0400–U+052F) straight from the browser, with no software to install and no system setting to change.

The layout reaches 36 characters that an ordinary Latin keyboard does not carry: а б в г д е ж з и й к л м н о п р с т у ф х ц ч ш щ ъ ы ь э ю я ё і ў №.

3 further characters come from the AltGr key (Alt on mobile): щ ъ и.

Transliteration mode lets you write Belarusian from a Latin keyboard: you type the sounds and the text is converted as you go.

How to type in Belarusian

  1. Click the on-screen keys or type on your physical keyboard — both write into the same text area.
  2. Shift shows the second layer of every key: capitals and the characters printed at the top right.
  3. AltGr (Alt on mobile) shows the third layer, the characters printed at the bottom right.
  4. The Copy button puts the whole text on the clipboard, ready to paste into an email, a document or a form.
  5. The Google, YouTube and ChatGPT buttons run a search with the text you typed, without retyping it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I type ў and і?

ў sits where щ is on a Russian keyboard, and і replaces и. Shift gives Ў and І.

How do I type the Belarusian apostrophe?

Belarusian uses an apostrophe instead of the hard sign ъ. It is on the key to the right of х, where ъ is on a Russian keyboard.

Can I type Russian with this keyboard?

Yes. Alt Gr + ў gives щ, Alt Gr + і gives и and Alt Gr + the apostrophe gives ъ, the three Russian letters missing from Belarusian.

Does it support Łacinka, the Belarusian Latin alphabet?

No, this layout is for Belarusian Cyrillic. For Łacinka, use a Latin keyboard with diacritics such as the Polish or Czech one.

How many letters does the Belarusian alphabet have?

32 Cyrillic letters. Compared with Russian it adds і and ў and drops и, щ and ъ.

What sound does ў make?

ў is a short u that never forms a syllable, like the English w. It follows vowels, as in "праўда" (truth).
