Armenian Keyboard Online

The layout at a glance

This Armenian virtual keyboard mirrors the layout used on physical Armenian keyboards, whose top row begins with քոեռտը. Its 47 character keys reach the 39 letters of the Armenian script (U+0530–U+058F) straight from the browser, with nothing to install.

The layout reaches 48 characters that an ordinary Latin keyboard does not carry: « » ՚ ՛ ՜ ՝ ՞ ա բ գ դ ե զ է ը թ ժ ի լ խ ծ կ հ ձ ղ ճ մ յ ն շ ո չ պ ջ ռ ս վ տ ր ց.

16 further characters come from the AltGr key (Alt on mobile): 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 = « » ՛ ՚ ՞.

How to type in Armenian

  1. Click the on-screen keys or type on your physical keyboard — both write into the same text area.
  2. Shift shows the second layer of every key: capitals and the characters printed at the top right.
  3. AltGr (Alt on mobile) shows the third layer, the characters printed at the bottom right.
  4. The Copy button puts the whole text on the clipboard, ready to paste into an email, a document or a form.
  5. The Google, YouTube and ChatGPT buttons run a search with the text you typed, without retyping it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Armenian phonetic layout?

Each Armenian letter sits on the Latin key with a similar sound: ա on A, բ on B, դ on D, ս on S and so on, which makes it quick to learn.

Where are the letters with no Latin equivalent?

է, թ, փ, ձ, ջ, և, ր, չ, ճ and ժ are on the number row; խ, ծ and շ are on the [ ] and \ keys.

How do I type Armenian punctuation?

Shift + ; gives the full stop ։, the key left of 1 gives the comma ՝, and Alt Gr gives ՛ ՚ ՞ and the « » quotes.

How do I type digits?

The number row carries letters, so press Alt Gr + the key to get 1 to 0.

How many letters does the Armenian alphabet have?

Mesrop Mashtots created it in 405 with 36 letters. Two were added later, giving 38, plus the ligature և.

Does it work for both Eastern and Western Armenian?

Yes. Both use the same letters; they differ in pronunciation and, in Eastern Armenian, in the reformed spelling.
